Listing your restaurant/bar/caffé/pub website in as many local directories as possible is imperative to improving your establishment’s ranking in the search engines.
Listing your restaurant in all important directories is a manual process which will take a few hours, but you only have to do it once, so take some time off over the weekend, and make sure you get it done. To rank higher in Google, it isn’t enough to just submit your restaurant details to Google Places. Google aggregates data from the other directories as well, so you need to submit to all of the directories in this article.
The process is similar across all of the directories. You have to first claim your profile, sometimes verify it, fill out a bunch of data about your restaurant, and upload some photos.
IMPORTANT: You absolutely must take care to enter the exact same contact info (Address, phone number, etc.) into the individual directories, otherwise the search engines will not give your listing prominence.
Here are the most important free local directories you’ll want to submit your restaurant/bar to:
- Google Places
- Bing Local
- Yahoo Local
- Urban Spoon
- City Search
- Yellow Pages
- Angie’s List
- Express Update USA
- Trip Advisor
- Merchant Circle
- Dex Knows
- Insider Pages
- Shop City
- Judy’s Book
- Yellow Bot
Also, each your specific location (state, country, county, etc.) might also have its own set of directories. Do a search for these to see if you can spot some:
- “CITY + restaurant directory”
- “CITY + restaurant aggregator”
- “CITY + restaurant listings”
- “CITY + submit business listing”
You local newspapers might also have such directories, make sure you check them out as well.
If we missed any directories, please let us know and we’ll add it to the above list.
